Remembering the Hills
Memories of a meadow that I used to know, In summer with colour, in winter with snow. In the days when I was just a young lad, My life was so lonely and my days so sad. T’was then that my time was not as is now, Though the fields and beyond did calm my brow. But the days of my youth were filled with awe, When I looked at life through the old back door. The fence was missing the wind howled through, I gazed at the pastures where dwelled the ewe. Their souls were tamed by the bite of the gales, As they struggled for life in the mountains of Wales. For now they have gone to places anew, Where they see no rain or summer dew. Their life is no more, their days have ended, They quelled the hungry as nature intended. Richardpeej March 2010 |
